Project Objective:

Students will create a silhouette landscape self portrait using photography and digital imaging techniques, including use of the pen tool and atmospheric perspective to create a graphically aesthetic image that represents an exploration of self in relation to environment and the connections to both place and community. The design will incorporate elements and principles of art and design in a symbolic and meaningful way, with an emphasis on composition, color theory and unity.

Techniques:

We will combine photography and graphic pen tool imagery using Adobe Photoshop. Tools and techniques include the pen tool, shape tools, photography composition, posing, portraiture, silhouette/back lighting and digital atmospheric perspective using varying color techniques.

Concept or Theme:

Students will explore visualization of self to environment, mood and feeling as well as universal themes of the juxtaposition of connection and isolation to and from other people in their current world. They will do this through discussion of art and artists that utilize silhouette, environment and landscape as well as themes of man and nature or other universal ideas, brainstorm of ideas using a worksheet that will guide them through relationships between body image/posing and point of view and mood/feeling in a certain space or environment and practice of photography and pen tool techniques to create digitally rendered imagery that represents a deeper idea.
