Students will be introduced to the idea of drawing photo realistically using the grid method, to help in the development of their style. As a specific learner in art, they will be further motivated by producing a portrait or other image of a favorite thing, infused with the knowledge and practice of Chuck Close and his specific "grid work" images. Students will choose images found on the Internet, and use line, value, contrast and composition in their final artworks.
Concepts of the Lesson:
The concept in this lesson deals with how to realistic expression can communicate in certain ways, and how recognizable imagery can be used to explore connection to others through a universal message. Students will reflect on their personal experiences to connect with their visual culture to realistically draw something that they enjoy in order to find common ground with others.
