Students will practice composition techniques to create symbolic still life images using the rules of composition, elements and principles and birds eye point of view (also known as "Flat Lay").

Techniques:

Digital Photography composition techniques: Fill the frame, rule of thirds, lead lines, point of view, symmetry/pattern, background

Digital Editing techniques: Cropping, desaturation, image resolution, file type

Concept or Theme:

Students will explore identity through discussion of symbolic still life imagery and identity influences, fill out the brainstorm worksheets and make a list of objects to collect based on three themes -- “You”, “Someone Else” (your family members and/or your friends) and a “Mood/Feeling”.  Using simple editing techniques and straightforward black and white photography, students will focus on the elements of principles of balance, pattern/repetition, line and composition techniques to create unique story telling imagery.
